Changing the Ride for the Next Generation

The Caring for Cowboys & Cowgirls Foundation™ is a North American non-profit dedicated to breaking the silence of rural life and ensuring that mental health support is accessible to everyone. Founded by award-winning horseman Taylor Douglas, CFCC was born from lived experience and the realization that the "cowboy up" culture—pushing through pain alone—has deeply impacted families, communities, and the horses who mirror us.

Our Mission

To change cowboy culture by raising awareness, reducing stigma, and increasing access to Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) for riders, ranchers, rodeo families, and rural communities. We believe that asking for help is an act of strength, not a lack of grit.

What We Do

We focus on removing the financial and cultural barriers that prevent people from seeking help. Our work is focused on three main pillars:

  • Direct Subsidies: Funding EAP sessions for individuals who cannot afford or access care.

  • Practitioner Growth: Providing scholarships for EAP certification and grants to rural practitioners and centers to build local capacity.

  • Community Advocacy: Partnering with rodeo groups, Indigenous communities, and rural health programs to normalize mental health conversations.

At the heart of our work is the understanding that a healthy horse starts with a healthy human. Horses reflect exactly what we carry inside; by supporting the mental wellness of the human, we improve the lives of the animals they care for and the legacy they leave for their children.
