Foundation-First Horsemanship Lessons
Foundation-First Horsemanship Lessons
At Happy Horses®, we believe great riding starts long before you ever pick up the reins. Our lessons are built on the timeless principles of feel, timing, and pressure-and-release mechanics — the same fundamentals that separate a horse that tolerates its rider from one that truly partners with them. When the foundation is right, everything else follows: softness, confidence, and a willing mind.
Every horse has the capacity to be calm, responsive, and light — but that potential is only unlocked through patient, consistent communication. We teach riders to understand why a horse responds the way it does, so you can work with your horse’s nature rather than against it. Whether you’re troubleshooting a specific challenge or building from the ground up, our approach focuses on creating real feel and timing that lasts a lifetime.
Our lessons are designed for Saskatchewan riders and horses at every level — from green horses taking their first steps under saddle to seasoned partners in need of a reset. If your goal is better body control, deeper trust, and a horse that performs confidently in any real-world situation, you’re in the right place. At Happy Horses®, we don’t just train horses — we build the foundation for everything you’ll ever ask of them.
Meet Your Trainer
Trey is an associate trainer at Happy Horses®, working directly alongside head horseman Taylor Douglas to bring the same Foundation First™ approach to every lesson. Grounded in the same principles of feel, timing, and clear communication that define the Happy Horses® program, Trey is passionate about helping riders and horses find their footing — one step at a time.
Trey specializes in groundwork basics, body control, and building genuine confidence — both in the arena and out on the trail. Whether you’re working through a specific challenge or simply want to deepen the connection with your horse, Trey meets you where you are and helps you make real, practical progress. His approach is patient, encouraging, and always focused on what’s best for the horse and rider together.
When you ride with Trey, you’re not just getting a lesson — you’re getting the full support of the Happy Horses® team and a program built on a foundation that lasts.
Lesson Pricing
All lessons are held in Saskatchewan and are open to riders and horses of all experience levels. Spots are limited — book early to secure your place.
Initial Assessment & Intake — $95 CAD (75 Minutes)
Your starting point. This session is designed for new students and gives Trey the opportunity to evaluate both horse and rider — assessing your horse’s current level of responsiveness, your riding position, and your communication patterns. You’ll leave with a clear picture of where you are and a personalized roadmap for where you’re going. Best for: First-time students or anyone returning after a long break who wants a structured, honest starting point.
Single Private Lesson — $80 CAD (60 Minutes)
One-on-one time with Trey, focused entirely on you and your horse. Each session is tailored to your current goals — whether that’s refining groundwork, improving softness under saddle, or working through a specific challenge. You’ll receive direct feedback and practical exercises to carry forward between sessions. Best for: Riders who want focused, individualized coaching and the flexibility to book as needed.
4-Lesson Monthly Pass — $280 CAD (4 × 60-Minute Private Lessons)
Consistency is where real progress happens. This pass gives you four private lessons per month at a reduced rate, keeping you and your horse on a steady development schedule. Trey will track your progress session to session and adjust the plan as you grow. Best for: Committed riders who want structured, ongoing development and the best value per lesson.
Semi-Private Lesson — $50 CAD/rider (90 Minutes, 2–3 Riders)
Learn alongside a small group of like-minded riders in a relaxed, supportive environment. Semi-private lessons cover shared fundamentals — groundwork, body control, and arena confidence — while still allowing time for individual feedback. Watching others work is part of the learning. Best for: Friends or barn mates who want to learn together, or riders looking for an affordable entry point into the Happy Horses® program.
Ready to Build Something Real?
Spots in our lesson program are limited by design — because every horse and rider deserves our full attention. If you’re ready to invest in a foundation that will carry you and your horse further than you thought possible, we’d love to hear from you.
When you reach out, please share a little about:
- Your horse — breed, age, and current level of training
- Your experience — how long you’ve been riding and what disciplines or styles you’ve worked in
- Your goals — what you’re hoping to achieve, whether that’s fixing a specific issue, building confidence, or developing a long-term partnership
This helps us match you with the right lesson format and make the most of your very first session. There are no wrong answers — just honest ones.
